Even though Mission Viejo is virtually built out as a master-planned family community, one member of the Planning Commission thinks the city should grow with high-density mixed-use development. Commissioner Chandra Krout, an appointee of City Councilman Frank Ury, espouses trendy New Urbanism, which considers low-density cities like Mission Viejo as sprawling and bedroom towns with no sense of community. Attached is her presentation, A Plan for Tomorrow, on the merits of high-density living. She suggests Mission Viejo give up its advantage as a planned family community by creating a diverse residential base to be competitive with other cities.
