Look for the Union Label
CUSD Update

If elected officials at the local level are thinking of running for higher office, voters should be aware of their records. As Capo Unified School District is facing up to $30 million or more in cuts by June 2012, it is helpful to understand, in part, how it got into this financial mess. Following is information reveals which trustees are fiscal conservatives or union enablers.

March 1, 2010 CUSD Board announces need 10% compensation reduction
Independent Fact Finding Report March 12, 2010
"Based on the foregoing and taking into consideration both parties facts and arguments, the Chair finds that the District has met its heavy burden of proof and that it has shown that is does have an inability to pay this bargaining unit at the current total compensation in the CBA

Recommended 10.32% reduction

  • 5 furlough days
  • Layoff 229 members from the unit
  • Remove ETAP II and STAP Ils (PTAs now pay this)
  • New health plan
  • Kaiser at no cost to employees plus one family
  • Blue Cross HMO 10% paid by employee/90% district
  • Blue Cross POS 15% paid by employee/85% paid by district
  • Increase class size by two students
  • 1% reduction in wage with restoration clause

CUSD Board imposed 10.1% compensation reduction(imposed less than Fact Finder recommended)

  • Salary 3.7% (Returned 1/11)
  • Furlough days 4 non-instruction 2009-2010
  • Furlough days 5 2010-2011 4.76% (Returned 2days 12/10)
  • Step and Column raises suspended for 6 months .74% (Returned 1/11)
  • Employees pay .82% for health insurance (CUEA has opened for negotiations)

April 22, 2010- April 26, 2010 teachers strike
Lost student days

Union spends over $400,000 to elect union friendly board.
CSEA President says "This is our opportunity to elect our own bosses."

November 2, 2010 Election (Three union backed candidates)
Reform still had 4 trustees or so though until Bryson and Brick became Union supporters.

November 9, 2010
Last meeting with the seven trustees who were all on the board at the time the Union contacts were negotiated. Labor Negotiations were NOT on the agenda. (it appears that the sudden desire to give back employees compensation began once the new board was sworn in to office)

**The new board has argued that the contract restoration language forced them to return salaries and furlough days but CUMA has no contact and there was no restoration language in the Teamsters contract. So management with a nod from them board gave furlough days to those two groups. They say you can't have school without CUMA (management) and Teamsters. We how then did they do it in in 09/10 when CUMA had furlough days and no other CUSD employee had any? How are they doing it this year when CUMA has more furlough days then other employees? They had to vote to impose furlough days on CUMA and Teamsters so how is it that without contact language they did not have to vote to restore those days?

ACT for America Meeting
Bruce Mayall, Chapter Leader

Reminder – Mission Viejo Chapter of ACT for America will hold its monthly general meeting on Mon., Feb. 13. Doors open at 6:45 p.m., and the meeting starts promptly at 7:30 p.m.

The topic of the meeting will be “Forget the War Against Islam – Let’s Win the Skirmishes First.” Guest speaker will be Karen Lugo, constitutional law professor and activist, presenting practical advice and tips on scoring victories against the Islamist agenda in our communities.

While many anti-Islamists are wringing their hands and dissecting the Koran, Muslims focus on subtle -- yet powerful and symbolic -- changes to our culture. We are currently on track to race down the path that Europe has trod since we have failed to learn the lessons of Europe's capitulation.

Karen Lugo is a visiting professor at Chapman Law School and co-teaches the advanced Constitutional Law Clinic. She is the founder of The Libertas-West Project and in this capacity she submitted a brief to Conseil d'Etat on the legal grounds for banning the burqa in France.

Karen will speak for about 50 minutes and then will have about 30 minutes for questions. A $5 donation is appreciated to help cover our costs. The meeting location is the Norman P. Murray Community Center (Sycamore B room), 24932 Veterans Way, Mission Viejo.

The Buzz

Ken Lopez-Maddox was mentioned last week on the Capistrano Dispatch as a political candidate. While some people think he might run again for the Capo school board, Jonathan Volzke indicates Lopen-Maddox is a potential Aliso Viejo City Council candidate. Lopez-Maddox was removed from the Capo school board by a union-driven recall in 2010. http://capistranoinsider.typepad.com/beyond_the_blackboard/2012/01/maddox-err-lopez-is-back-.html

A group of Mission Viejo Republicans met at the Mission Viejo Country Club on Jan. 28 to hear OC GOP Scott Loenhorst’s presentation on how to Get Out The Vote. A straw poll of attendees found a majority were Rick Santorum supporters, with the remainder split between Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich. The most recent national poll as of this writing is Gallup Tracking (ending Feb. 3), in percentages: Romney (35), Gingrich (24), Santorum (16) and Paul (12). http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2012/president/us/republican_presidential_nomination-1452.html

Email from Joe Holtzman: “As you know, Southern California Edison’s nuclear energy generation station is problematic. It has THE worst safety record of all of the nuclear energy generation stations in the United States. You will want to listen to this expose of SCE’s San Onofre Nuclear Generation Station in Southern California. This is FLAT scary.” Click on the link to hear an audio interview with San Onofre whistleblower James Chambers, who says the nuclear power plant has dangerously thinning tubes in the newly replaced steam generators.  He says the condition is unprecedented and critical, and he gives his recommendations:

From the Feb. 4 Pacific Justice Institute newsletter: “Los Angeles, CA - A veteran Los Angeles teacher has been arrested on multiple charges of child molestation allegedly occurring inside the classroom. Meanwhile, radio reports indicate that the teacher's union arranged for him to resign-even after the discovery of shocking pictures involving his students-so that he could collect a generous pension from taxpayers.” http://pacificjustice.org/

The media touted the “great news” of January’s rising employment figures – all to the credit of Barack Obama, of course. Kevin Jackson looks beyond the Obama-generated jubilation: “The fraudulent unemployment numbers are out and Obama is celebrating. He said to Congress, ‘Don't muck it up.’ Forget that Obama has spent $6.2T to have one good month of good jobs report, but the fact is that the reason the unemployment figures dropped is a whopping 1.2M people dropped out of the job search altogether. This is how Obama must measure, as there is no good news otherwise.” The real numbers remain grim: http://www.infowars.com/long-term-unemployment-remains-high-millions-leave-labor-force/?utm_source=Humor+-+The+Antidote+for+Liberalism++v6-2012&utm_campaign=02-05-12+Newsletter+-+The+Black+Sphere&utm_medium=email
