Vote YES on Measure D Guest editorial
Some people think you shouldn’t have the right to vote!
Some people think you’re not smart enough to know what is good or bad. Some of these people are politicians in city hall. Some of them own businesses that benefit from council decisions. They want you to vote “NO” on Measure D.
These same people say you have the right to know the truth – THEIR TRUTH!
Well, here’s some truth for you (and you can figure it out).
In the last few years, the Mission Viejo City Council majority has rezoned commercial properties as high-density housing. In addition, a developer approached city council members individually and proposed homebuilding on the Casta del Sol Golf Course.
High-density housing brings in traffic congestion and overcrowding in schools.
Taxes on commercial property (about 10 percent of Mission Viejo land) give the city 50 percent of its tax revenue. As the city continues to rezone commercial property, it puts a greater burden on homeowners to make up the difference.
Some city council members want you to shut up and pay your taxes to fund their salaries, health insurance benefits and their special projects AND DEFINITELY NOT VOTE!
These same people on the council spent $400,000 on a Rose Parade float that was on TV for a few seconds, and they spent a fortune on celebrating the city’s 20th anniversary, including 500 easels discarded on a hillside.
Other people think you’re very smart! They think you are smart enough to vote … Smart enough to vote YES on Measure D.
